Trend Watch: Hurray For Chambray!

Ever wonder what that really thin denim like material that seemed to rock the 80’s and 90’s?  Well it’s called Chambray and it’s making a comeback in a very large way.  Seen on the runways of Matthew Williamson, Gucci, and J.Crew chambray a lightweight fabric most commonly made from cotton, is a great alternative to heavy denim.

Trend Watch: Truly Tribal

One day I’d love to visit the beautiful continent of Africa and take in all the beauty that it has to offer.  Until then I can dress the part with all the gorgeous tribal inspired pieces I’ve been seeing.  African prints and tribal patterns are widely available now more than ever.  Weather you’re looking for a dress, or a shirt, there’s plenty to choose from on shop bop and they’ve made it oh so easy to navigate by packaging this trend into one neat little area for your convenience.  I had to share some of my favs, I have my eye on the Rachel Pally Leggings and T-Bags dress, both are eye catching and bright exactly what I need.

Which pieces do you love? Is this a trend you will be following this season?

Trend Watch: Serious Rompage

With Coachella passing and the warm weather slowly….but surely rearing its head over the horizon, I know I will be looking to stay causally cool but still fashionably fab in spring’s hottest new trends.  The romper has been noted on the scene at several events and is high on my spring shopping list, because it’s just so easy to wear, it’s just one piece won’t have you agonizing over coordinates.

In so many different colors textures and styles, you could potentially rock a different romper every day of the week.  I’m leaning toward short rompers with a loose comfortable fit, like the Loeffler Randall or Aka New York rompers above. Pair it with a cool pair of gladiator sandals, or another hot trend wedge buckle booties, and you’ll definitely be noticed for the fashion Queen you are.  With versatility being just as important as aesthetics try going for a LBR (little black romper) aren’t I cleaver :) And pair it some killer heels.

For the budget concious and budgetless, my picks for some serious rompage:

Top Shop – Simple Molly Playsuit By Motel $78

Forever 21 – Brush Strokes Block $23

Baby Phat – Denim Jumper $69

Aka New York – Print Romper $318

Loeffler Randall – Bustier Jumper $325

Warning: Men In Skirts

Fashion is pushing harder than ever the boundaries and norms that years ago put women in skirts and men in slacks.  But as time rolls on and fashion evolves women continue to embrace menswear, but do the men secretly covet what the women wear?  H&M introduced its spring 2010 lookbook a few months ago and many may have been surprised to see pleated skirts accompanying trousers, shorts and harem pants.  But do we think this is a look that will inspire men to abandon their pants for “legless trousers”?

First spotted on the runways of John Gilliano and Comme des Garcons in 2008, the look was unexpected and comical but never caught on. I don’t think anyone was too surprised by that.  But now it seems like it’s getting serious and the designers behind H&M apparently intend on transforming this taboo look into mainstream.

Although this look may have been spotted on the fashionable streets of Europe, here in North America I believe that there is just too much associated with a skirt for men to put aside their egos, and spend the day in crotch-less garments.  But if this look did go mainstream would it be considered cross dressing?  Would people find it offensive?  Would you approve of your mate taking up this style?

Until then Marc Jacobs will no doubt continue to be the poster boy for the man skirt, whether we like it or not.

Trend Watch: Strap Me Up…Buckle Wedges

Wedge boots have taken on a new face this season and I’m loving how designers are finding ways to edge out just about everything.  The buckle ankle booties are finding their way across the nation in a wide array of variations from denim to leather and from ankles to knees they’ve created quite a stir.  Even prompting Jeffery Campbell to come out with his “tribute” version to Chloe Sevigny’s  fly-tastic pair she collaborated last year with Opening Ceremony to come up with, which had a very long waiting list indeed.

Chloe’s pair cost about $690, but Asos, Aldo and Karmaloop have got it covered.  Even though it’s a “knock off” or whatever tender phrase we shall call inspired pieces, I’m really feeling the Jeffery’s which were also featured in Karmaloops latest “Misty” Lookbook.  The denim ones are cute too; ahhh can’t wait for the sun to be out full time!

Prices when you hit it.

Trend Watch: Can Sweat Pants Be Sexy?

Everyone seems to be busy with something these days, and outfits that do double duty are essential, but never before would I have thought that a pair of sweats could be considered couture.  Sweat pants have transcended the gym and mysteriously found their way on to the run ways of Isabel Marant, Rag and Bone, Bottega Veneta and Alexander Wang.

The key here of course is major tailoring, don’t think you can grab your ugly sweat pants and create the same illusion, not even close.  This snug but relaxed fit must be worn with a fierce pair of heels or a snazzy pair of flats; gladiator sandals perhaps.  Throw this causal luxe look together with a blazer and a cute tank and your ready to hit up the hottest events, dinners or even parties with your girls in classic comfort.

I’ve found a few budget and budget less sweats to get you started if you’re considering trying this look out.  I think I’ll give it a try, with the flats though at first I’m a sucker for comfortable shoes.

Think you’ll give this look a try?
