3rd Annual Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon Red Carpet Stand Outs

In Fashion there are a lot of grey areas, but some things are black and white and at the 3rd Annual Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon, this was evident by the dress we saw on the red carpet.

Nudes, nudes, nudes, my mind is boiling over with all the nude inspired outfits we’ve been seeing lately.  This spring 2010 trend is the biggest of them all, and I think if just enough people start wearing these soft barely there colors, we just might will ourselves into an early spring season.

Anika Noni Rose has been a busy bee, she just hosted the NAACP Image awards this week,, she stays consistent in her smart choice to rock this Carmen Marc Valvo Fall 2008, belted black and white ruffle tiered dress.  I like the shape it creates, and the black belt makes her waist appear teeny tiny. She paired her dress with black pumps which ground the entire outfit.

Jada Pinkett Smith went for a more eclectic look, in a mid thigh v-neck satin tunic in a soft beige color.  She also uses the opportunity to accessories with several bangles and a strappy studded sandal.  What makes this look pop for me is the hair; it complements the overall theme very well.

Zoe Saldana looks lovely in a nude lace ruffle tiered Valentino spring 2010 mini dress.  She’s one of my favourite red carpet starlets, and she’s only gaining momentum with her style with every new dress we see her in. For darker skin tones nude is not always nude, a cognac color open toe sandal suits her well in replicating the barely there look in the footwear department.

Nia long continues to look long and strong, how old is she again?  It really doesn’t matter because in this dress, age aint’ nothing but a number.  She shows off her toned legs in a stripped sequined tunic, that’s belted at the waist.  Note: adding a belt to a loosely fitting top or dress adds structure and can take an outfit from day to night in a snap. Her signature short cut, beige pumps, a matching clutch and chandelier earrings complete a look that scores a 10 in my books.

Keke Palmer went for understated elegance in a white sheer sleeved zigzag patterned dress.  I don’t think we have to worry about her making age appropriate choices any more, she’s clearly blossomed into a fashionable woman.  She wears black nail polish on her fingers and toes, and sparkles in silver peep toes.

Keri Hilson, has by far has been surprising me the most with her choices since her gorgeous Dolce and Gabbana gown she wore to the GRAMMY’s.  Keri’s bold embellished jacket paired with a black bustier and satin cropped pants make for hot no fuss look.  I’m glad she changed from her lighter hair color to this midnight black shade; the honey blonde would not have had the same impact.

Tichina Arnold and Serena Williams wore similar dresses; Tichina strapless with a ruffled hem and Serena a v-neck with ruffled shoulders.  For Tichina, I love the clutch she chose; her dress is so simple that the clutch provides some interest.  The shoes however pull the whole look down, I would have suggested a heel close to the color of her dress.  Serena on the other hand is on the money with her shoe choice, it complements the ruffles on her shoulders, and without them the dress would not have made the cut.

  • Right on! As a healthy conditioner researcher, I totally agree with you. It is almost unreal the things we can learn about our hair, the tons of options hairstyles artists create for girls especially once we make sure to use only natural hair care products.

  • The dangerously low cut shoe patterns that allow your feet to be shown and the unleashing of the inner beauty and potential that creates pure magic.

  • So what does a hard working really-need-a-holiday person pack when she goes on holiday? Most suitcases heading for the fun and sun will contain at least one pair of casual sandals, one pair of flip flops and one pair of evening sandals. They are a must in a hot country when closed shoes will make us feel considerably hot and uncomfortable!

I like what you are doing with this story. Right on! As a hair products researcher, I totally agree with you. I found some pictures of great looking summer hairstyles. Track back to me if you are interested to see them.

  • Wow… Really informative post!
    Have a good day!
